HM-14 "Vanguard" is a U.S. Navy helicopter mine countermeasures squadron established in 1978. The squadron operated the MH-53E Sea Dragon, one of the largest helicopters in the U.S. military, specifically designed for airborne mine countermeasures. Based at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, HM-14 was tasked with detecting and neutralizing naval mines to ensure safe passage for military and commercial vessels. The "Vanguard" has been involved in various global operations, including in the Persian Gulf, where they have played a critical role in maintaining maritime security. HM-14 was deactivated and responsibilities transferred to HM-15 beginning in January 2023.
